KINGSTON, Jamaica — The National Works Agency (NWA) says it has started a road patching exercise, targeting several corridors across the country.

A separate programme is also reportedly being simultaneously rolled out, under which the NWA says critical drains along select corridors will be cleaned and embankments bushed.

In a news release today, Manager, Communication and Customer Services at the NWA, Stephen Shaw, says that the corridors to be targeted under these programmes are those that carry a heavy volume of traffic.

These will reportedly be selected by the agency, based on information gleaned through traffic studies.

Shaw says J$200 million will be spent on the patching of roads islandwide, while the drain cleaning and bushing activities will account for another J$260 million.

He says that much of the activities will be completed before Christmas and that members of Parliament have been engaged to assist in having some of the work done.
